Borj Sud, also Burj al-Janub, is a historic fort located in Fes, Morocco. It was built in 1582 AD by the Saadi Sultan Ahmad al-Mansur. The fort, which was designed in the style of Portuguese forts, is located in an elevated area overlooking the old city of Fes. Borj Sud was inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1981 as part of Medina of Fez.
The imposing entrance door with its mosaic tiles is the most emblematic portal of the old medina, Fes el-Bali , the largest medieval city and car-free urban area in the world. The blue on the side that welcomes new visitors represents the color of the city of Fez, famous for its pottery, painted with elegant cobalt blue patterns.
