The largest of its kind in Africa, with more than 150 different kinds of succulents, all displayed in a tidy manner, against the empty desert landscape.
This 17-acre (6.8-hectare) cactus nursery was founded in the mid-1960s by Hans Thiemann, an agricultural engineer from Germany, and cacti lover, his farm now is a garden and a research facility, has provided expertly grown cacti to the botanical beds of famous gardens, such as Jardin Majorelle.

Beyond the long queues at Majorelle Gardens or the stylish wanderers at the Secret Garden inside the medina, there’s a relatively unknown oasis just outside of town and it’s the source for many gardens in the red city.
It all started with Hans Thiemann, a cacti lover who was growing cacti in Germany’s difficult weather conditions, had visited the north African country in the ‘50s to get some plants from Marrakech. In the ‘60s he came back for good and decided to open his own cacti farm in the perfect weather of the red city. In 2001 Thiemann passed away and his wife Fatima is currently running the farm and lives on the property with their adult daughters, Magda and Roseline.
Each year, more and more people visit Cactus Thiemann, either because of their love for plants, or to snap some stunning shots. For lovers of gardens and gardening, or simply for future landscaping, we remain at your entire disposal, to answer all your questions.
