Day 2: Marrakech (Guided Full Day Sightseeing)

A Full guided tour will be scheduled to discover Marrakesh which is known as the “Red City”. Marrakesh is the most important former imperial city in Morocco’s history; it is situated near the foothills of the snow-capped Atlas Mountain. Like all the old cities, Marrakech comprises both an old fortified city The Medina and an very modern city called Gueliz built during the French occupation. Marrakesh has the largest traditional market (souk) in Morocco and also has one of the busiest squares in Africa and the world, Djemaa el Fna. The square is full of story-tellers, water sellers, dancers, snakes charmers and musicians. During the night the square turns into a huge open-air restaurant. there’s a beautiful hidden kasbah in the middle of the atlas mountains at elevation of (1800 m) Telouet Kasbah is a Kasbah along the former route of the caravans from the Sahara over the Atlas Mountains to Marrakech. The kasbah was the seat of the El Glaoui family’s power, thus sometimes also called the Palace of Glaoui. Its construction started in 1860 and it was further expanded in later years.

the fortified Kasbah of Ait Benhaddou, built in the 11th century. Once up on a time this Kasbah was the former caravan route between the Sahara and Marrakesh. It is situated on a hill along the Ounila River and has some beautiful examples of Kasbahs, which unfortunately sustain damage during each rainstorm and windstorms. Most of the town’s inhabitants now live in a more modern village at the other side of the river; however, around five families are still living within this Kasbah. Ait Benhaddou Kasbah has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1987 and several films have been shot there, including Lawrence of Arabia (1962), Time Bandits (1981), The Jewel of the Nile (1985), Kundun (1997), Gladiator (2000) and Alexander (2004)

Ouarzazate (Hollywood of Africa, Noiselessly town, the door of the desert), is a city situated in the middle of a bare plateau, south of the High Atlas Mountains. It is mainly inhabited by Berbers, who constructed many of the prominent Kasbahs and building for which the area is known. One of those building is Taourirt Kasbah diverted in 17th century. Why this town is nicknamed as Hollywood of Africa? Simply because it has been noted as a film-making location, with Morocco’s biggest studios inviting many international film companies to shoot their movies like: Lawrence of Arabia (1962), The Living Daylights (1987), The Last Temptation of Christ (1988), The Mummy (1999), Gladiator (2000), Kingdom of Heaven (2005), Martin Scorsese’s Kundun (1997) and Babel (2005).
You can visit the Studio of Cinema, Kasbah Taourirt, and Museum of Cinema.

Day 4: Dades Gorges – Tinghir – Todra Gorges – Merzouga.

We pass through Boumalen city situated on the edge of Dades valley which rises in the High Atlas Mountains, giving life to a huge Berber community by its rich agriculture. to the great canyons of Morocco Todgha Gorges are situated beyond the central high Atlas Mountains. Here, the contrasting landscapes remind visitors of the Colorado, with its high plateau, its gorges and great canyons, and its peaks sometimes splintered by erosion. Several peaks in this area exceed 4000 m, with Jbel Saghro 2500 m and Jbel Mgoun at 4068 m being the highest peak in this part of the High Atlas. The area is populated by Berbers. Here you can enjoy a hike among those fabulous canyons.

heading to Erfoud which is famous for its pottery and the interesting fossil quarries. Fossils are a major industry in Erfoud, some 350 million years ago the region around Erfoud was a part of the huge ocean.

Heading up to the red colored sand sea dunes of Erg Chebbi Merzouga from a vast plateau you will get impressed by the huge sand dune of Merzouga appearing from the horizon. in the evening we go on a camel ride about one hours and half to meet one of the most fascinating sight we will ever seen, the superb sunset in the middle of the high sand dunes of Merzouga. Overnight in Berber tented desert camp and enjoy a wonderful stars view.

If you wake up early enough, you can see the spectacular of the sunrise, when the color of the dunes and the play of shadow are awesome. Then taking camel again for going back to the hostel shower then departing to Fez. Via Errachidia. We start crossing up those tough mountains which are still settled by a big Berber community. The landscapes here includes palm tree oases at Jbel Ayachi (at 3747 m).

Lunch will be scheduled in a Berber village called Midelt which is situated on the foothills of the eastern part of the High Atlas Mountains. From vast plateau we start crossing up those tough mountains which are still settled by a big Berber community. The landscapes here includes palm tree oases at Jbel Ayachi (at 3747 m).

Ifran is very known as well by The Brotherhood private university, established in 1997 by the king of Morocco Hassan II and the king of Saudi Arabia Fahd. Where all classes are taught in English, it is an international university . then by the evening arrive to your accommodation in Fez.

Whole day Sightseeing Tour with a guide, Fez Medina which was considered Mecca of the west and Athena of Africa. It is the biggest city of the country after Casablanca with a population of approximately 1 million. This city is a former capital and one of the country’s four imperial cities. Fez comprises three distinct parts, Fez el Bali which is the oldest part surrounded by a big wall, where are more than 9000 narrow streets and allies. Fez-Jdid or the new Fes, home of the Mellah the Jewish quarter and the Ville Nouvelle the newest section of Fez created during the French occupation. Fez el Bali is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Its medina is the largest in the world. Among its narrow streets and allies, the oldest university in the world is located; The University of Al-Karaouine, founded in AD 859. This University is still operating nowadays.

Explore Chefchaouen, with its winding lanes and narrow alleys which are home to numerous souks offering cuisine and artisan works, such as woolen items, intricate embroidery, and goats cheese; all native to the North and not found anywhere else in Morocco. Day 8: Tetouan – Tangier – Asilah.

Tetouan is a home to the “Tetouan Centre of Modern Art” which houses a large collection of Iberian-Moroccan art. It’s worth visiting if you are interested in modern art, and even if you aren’t, because it gives an interesting view of what life was like in Morocco in the early 20th century.
Tétouan has been home to a significant Sephardi Jewish community which immigrated from Spain after the Reconquista and the Spanish Inquisition. This Jewish Sephardi community spoke a form of Judaeo-Spanish known as Haketia.
Tetouan, sometimes known by the nickname “the white dove” for its overall white appearance and for its affinity with Spanish culture, is a city in northern Morocco with a population of over 300,000 inhabitants.

Tangier, a Moroccan port on the Strait of Gibraltar has been a strategic gateway between Africa and Europe since Phoenician times. Its whitewashed hillside medina is home to the Dar el Makhzen, a palace of the sultans that’s now a museum of Moroccan artifacts. The American Legation Museum, also in the medina, documents early diplomatic relations between the U.S. and Morocco in an 1821 Moorish-style former consulate.
For atmosphere and photography, this area is one of the best places to visit in the city. Tangier is also one of the best places to visit and base yourself while exploring the northern Atlantic Coast and the Mediterranean Coast.

Cape Spartel (Cap Spartel) is situated 14 kilometers west of Tangier, the far northwest coast of Africa on the northern Atlantic coast of Morocco. The Spartel Cape was built in 1864 by Sultan Muhammad III and is located about 1,000 feet above sea level at the entrance to the Strait of Gibraltar and it is consider a special place in Tangier because it connects with the Mediterranean Sea and the Atlantic Ocean and has wonderful views, next to the lighthouse, where you can go up and take memorable photos.

The Caves of Hercules are situated below the Cape Spartel, and could be reached from Robinson beach. So you can visit the legendary Caves of Hercules and enjoy the panoramic views.
The cave has two openings, one to sea and one to land. The sea opening is known as “The Map of Africa”. It is believed that the Phoenicians created the sea opening which is in the shape of Africa when looked at from the sea. There are also some markings on the wall in the shape of eyes. That are said to be made by the Phoenicians, which make up a map of the local area.

It is the largest mosque in the kingdom and the fifth largest mosque in the world. It stands on a promontory looking out on the Atlantic, and has space for 25,000 worshippers. A further 80,000 can be accommodated in the mosque’s adjoining grounds for a total of 105,000 worshippers present at any given time at the Hassan II mosque. Its minaret is the tallest one in the world at 210 m.

According to UNESCO,[8] the most important buildings from the Portuguese period are the cistern, and the Manueline Church of the Assumption.
The city, and particularly its neighboring town of Sidi Bouzid, becomes extremely busy in the summer season with an influx of mainly Moroccan holiday-makers. Nearby is the five-star resort complex of Mazagan, which attracts some middle-class Moroccans as well as many international visitors from the Arabian Peninsula as well.

Safi is a city located in western Morocco on the Atlantic Ocean, very famous all over the World of fishing port for the country’s sardine industry, and also exports phosphates, but also for the quality of Design ceramic Vases Hand-crafted and hand painted in Safi, Textiles and ceramics. During the Second World War, Safi was the site of Operation Blackstone, one of the landing sites for Operation Torch.
Safi was occupied by the Portuguese in the early 16th century for about 30 years. During their rule of the city they built a citadel surrounding a military enclave, still intact today, called the Kechla, Ksar El Bahr, a 16th-century fortress built by Portuguese colonizers, is on the waterfront. In the old town, food and craft stalls line the Rue du Souk. Nearby, the National Museum of Ceramics is in another Portuguese-built fort. The centerpiece of the collection is decorated local pottery, created in workshops in the hillside of the potters’ quarter.

Pick up at 09h30 from your Hotel or Riad in a comfortable conditioned 4×4 or minivan with an experienced English speaking driver after some 45 minutes drive through olive tree groves we should get to the gate of the Ourika valley at the village of Tnine Ourika, where a Great Weekly market is set every Monday where all the peoples living around come to buy their needs for the whole ( great activity). Once visit the market ( if Monday) driver through the majestic Atlas Mountain.

Admire towering snow-capped peaks on your 1-hour drive to the valley of Ourika, famous by its waterfalls, this lush valley’s waterfalls are a lovely counterpoint to the surrounding landscape.
we carry on the journey up the Ourika valley till the stunning village of Setti Fadma which marks the end of the Tarmac road.

Stop At: Setti Fatma et les 7 Cascades, Route d’Ourika, Setti-Fatma Morocco
guided visit will help you to fully explore these waterfalls with your expert mountain guide. about 1hr 30 min walk for going and coming back (if you aren’t interested by the walk you may escape the walk and just enjoy very little walks long the road to take the pictures. or have a drink in the small cafes beside the river), you will enjoy different landscapes and get spectacular views, in these valley you will have the opportunity to visit the Berber women extracting the argan oil (the unique Moroccan oil).
you can have lunch in a Local restaurant next to the river . we then get back to the car and make our journey back in the late afternoon to Marrakech to get here around 17h00.
N.B : some of the peoples may escape the walk and just enjoy very little walks along the road to take the pictures.
