The tizi n’Tichka is a pass at 2,260 meters above sea level located on the road between Marrakech and Ouarzazate. It makes it possible to join the semi-arid regions of the south-east of the High Atlas from the more fertile plains of the edges of the Atlantic.

Ouarzazate is a town south of the mountains of the Moroccan High Atlas, known as the gateway to the Sahara Desert. Its enormous Taourirt Kasbah, housing a 19th century palace, offers a view of the surrounding rocky landscape, which appears in several films. To the north-west lies the fortified red earth town of Ait-ben-Haddou, while the rocky gorges of Toudra extend to the north-east. A road winds to the southeast, through the lush palm groves of the Drâa valley, towards the desert.
