What to Expect When Visiting Marrakesh, Marrakesh-Safi, Morocco

Itinerary

Day 1: Day 1: Casablanca

Stop At: New Medina of Casablanca, Blvd Victor Hugo, Casablanca Morocco
Casablanca is the largest city in Morocco, but it is not the capital. That honour belongs to Rabat (for now… Morocco’s capital has changed several times over the centuries). Casablanca is a modern city that still has lots of history attached to it, as you will see.

While we are here, we’ll get to see the popular Hassan II Mosque (estimated to house 25,000 worshippers inside), Parc de la Ligue Arabe and the Casablanca Cathedral.

Of course, you can also visit the famous Old Medina, the olive souk or anything else that takes your fancy.

Day 2: Day 2: To Rabat and Chefchaouen

Stop At: Rabat Old Town, Rabat Center, Rabat 10030 Morocco
From Casablanca, we will take you to the northern imperial city of Rabat.

Rabat contains lots to experience. There is the medieval Chellah Necropolis, Roman and Islamic ruins, the Kasbah Des Oudaias (a grand door that leads to the original city center), the 20th-century Andalusian Gardens and the Hassan Tower.

From there, we will take you through the Rif Mountains to Chefchaouen, also known as ‘The Blue City’. You can enjoy the medina along the northern hillside before touring the kasbah and the abandoned Spanish Mosque.

Day 3: Day 3: Volubilis to Meknes and Fes

Stop At: Volubilis, Morocco
Volubilis is a UNESCO protected site and it is where you can find Morocco’s ancient Roman ruins that includes ‘The Labours Of Hercules’.

After Volubilis, its time to head to Meknes. Meknes has lots to offer you, including the Bab al-Mansour gate and the Mausoleum of Moulay Ismail.

After Meknes, we will head to Fes where we will spend the night in a traditional riad. Before we head to bed though, there will be time to look around and enjoy the medina, the Merenid Tombs and the Mellah (the Jewish Quarter and Cemetery).

Day 4: Day 4: Fes

Stop At: Fes el-Bali, Fes 30110 Morocco
We will be spending some time in Fes, one of Morocco’s oldest Imperial cities.

Your guides will talk you through some of Fes’s history and help you to find your way around the medina!

Day 5: Day 5: Fes to Erfoud to Merzouga and the Sahara

Stop At: Merzouga Desert, Merzouga Morocco
Today we’ll be heading to the south. You’ll get to see some wonderful countryside, that includes cedar forests, the ‘Apple City’ of Midelt and having your lunch near the Moulouya River.

There’s quite a bit of ground to cover, but eventually you will come to Erg Chebbi in the Sahara Desert, where you will spend the night in a Bedouin style tent.

Sit back and enjoy the clear night sky!

Day 6: Day 6: Desert towns around Merzouga, lush oases, and Todra Gorge

Stop At: Gargantas del Todra, Tinerhir 45800 Morocco
Today you will be waking up in the Sahara Desert’s sea of sand dunes. You can take a sand dune tour if you wish, or you can opt to stay put and enjoy a rest.

Later, we will take you to the Todra Gorge via the traditional Saharan village of Khemliya where you can experience traditional music, drumming and dancing.

When you get to the oasis at Todra, it is time to relax and settle down for the night.

Day 7: Day 7: Dades Valley to Ouarzazate to Aït Benhaddou

Stop At: Ksar of Ait-Ben-Haddou, Douar Ait Ben Haddou, Ait Ben Haddou 45000 Morocco
Today, we’ll make our way through Boumalne Dades and the Valley Of A Thousand Kasbahs to reach Kela’a M’gouna.

From there we will head to Ouarzazate, a popular filming location and site of the Musée du Cinema. We can also take a movie studio tour if you would like to know a bit more about the history of filming in the area.

Toward the end of the day, we will take you to Aït Benhaddou, a protected UNESCO site and the most famous kasbah in Morocco.

You can then spend your evening in Aït Benhaddou as you wish, before turning in for the night.

Day 8: Day 8: Aït Benhaddou to Tizi n’Tichka pass to Marrakech

Stop At: Medina of Marrakesh, Derb Fhal Zefriti n06 Derb Fhal Zefriti, Marrakech 40000 Morocco
From Aït Benhaddou, we will be heading from the desert to much greener, wetter climes and to one of Morocco’s most famous cities, Marrakech.

First though, we will travel up into the High Atlas via the Tizi n’Tichka pass (4167 m) where we will stop to take in a stunning view of the surrounding area, including Mount Toubkal, the tallest peak in North Africa.

When you arrive in Marrakech, you will have the chance to settle into your lodgings to take some time to explore the city. Make sure you visit the main square Jemaa el-Fna in the evening, if only for the incredible street entertainers. If that is not necessarily your thing, then there is the Koutoubia Mosque, souks to explore, plus the Saadian Tombs, Bahia Palace, and El Badi Palace.

Day 9: Day 9: Marrakech

Stop At: Medina of Marrakesh, Derb Fhal Zefriti n06 Derb Fhal Zefriti, Marrakech 40000 Morocco
Your adventure continues with a full day exploring Marrakech and all it has to offer. We will provide you with a guide to point out some areas of interest and help to orient you.

You’ll get the opportunity to explore the bustling souks, the Koutoubia Mosque (Marrakech’s tallest minaret at 253 feet), the Majorelle Gardens in Ville Nouvelle and Marrakech’s Mellah.

Day 10: Day 10: Marrakech to Casablanca

Stop At: New Medina of Casablanca, Blvd Victor Hugo, Casablanca Morocco
This is your final day before we take you back to Casablanca.

We won’t be going until after lunch though, so in the morning we can take in a few more sights, for example, the Marrakech Museum, the 12th-century Almoravid Koubba and the Museum of Moroccan Arts.

When lunch is done, its time for us to go!
