What to Expect When Visiting Tangier, Tanger-Tetouan-Al Hoceima, Morocco

Day 1: Tangier – Chaouen
Stop At: Hercules Cave, Cap Spartel, Tangier 90060 Morocco
Leaving the city of Tangier, visit the Grottos of Hercules, whose silhouette to the sea is the most representative image of Tangier. Its shape marked the arrival for centuries on the African continent.

Stop At: Chefchaouen, Morocco
From Tangier we will travel early to Chaouen (approximately two and a half hours). The blue pearl of Morocco is our visit of the day for a stroll through its indigo streets.

Day 2: Chaouen – Volubilis – Meknes – Fez
Stop At: Volubilis, Morocco
The spectacular Roman ruins of Volubilis can be visited in the afternoon at one stop before reaching Fez.

Stop At: Meknes, Meknes, Fes-Meknes
Then we will go to Meknes, the most unknown of the four imperial cities of Morocco that we will visit during the rest of the day.

The huge door that leads into the medina is the most representative element of Meknes. Opposite the square reminiscent of that of Marrakech where you can walk and see the stalls.

Recently remodeled, it is a beautiful mausoleum honoring the sultan who made Meknes the capital of the empire.

Finally you can go to visit the old royal granaries Hri Souani, located next to a large pond.

We leave Meknes to go to Fez where we leave you at your accommodation or the point that best suits you.

Day 3: Fez
Stop At: Medina of Fez, Fes 30000 Morocco
We visit the largest medina in Morocco, which houses the oldest university and the famous leather tanneries, among other ancestral trades that continue with their activity today.

Stop At: Royal Palace of Fez, Avenue Omar Ibnou Khattab, Fes 30004 Morocco
The royal palace and its 7 beautiful golden doors are a must stop on a visit to Fez. Also if there is time you can take a short walk through the Jewish quarter that is right next door.

Stop At: Borj Sud, Avenue Borj S, Fes Morocco
We will climb to the top of the hill where there is a historical military tower, to enjoy panoramic views of the city of the minarets. Then we will go to a nearby ceramic cooperative to see the artisan wonders that take place there.

Day 4: Fez- Merzouga Desert
Stop At: Azrou Cedar Forest, Azrou Morocco
From Fez we will cross the Atlas Mountains. The Azrou cedar forest where we will make a small stop on our way from Fez to the desert, is home to barbary macaques that live in freedom, although they are used to tourists who make this journey.

Stop At: Midelt, Midelt, Meknes-Tafilalet Region
The city of apples that we will cross is going to be another of our intermediate stops on today’s 7-hour drive.

Stop At: Valée de Ziz, N13, Morocco
We will stop to admire the overflowing greenery of the Ziz Valley, before reaching the desert.

Stop At: Merzouga Desert, Merzouga Morocco
Finally we will arrive at the Merzouga desert to enjoy it the next day.

Day 5: Desert
Stop At: Merzouga Desert, Merzouga Morocco
With the car we will cross part of the tracks to see the dunes of Merzouga, and visit the shops of one of the Berber nomads.

Stop At: Khamlia, Khamlia, Draa-Tafilalet
We will pass through the town of Khamlia, whose inhabitants come from the Sha ethnic group of Central Africa. It is typical to listen to the Gnawa music with which they liven up meals.

Stop At: Erfoud, Erfoud, Meknes-Tafilalet Region
Near Erfoud, there are some fossil quarries. We will go to see them and if desired to a fossil store. Then free time for desert activities such as quad biking or a camel ride to the dunes or a desert camp.

Day 6: Desert – Todra – Dades – Ouarzazate
Stop At: Erg Chebbi, Erg Chebbi, Meknes-Tafilalet Region
Don’t miss the opportunity to watch the sunrise from the highest dune in the Merzouga desert. Then we will head back north.
Duration: 1 hour
Stop At: Gargantas del Todra, Tinerhir 45800 Morocco
On the way back, we deviate a bit to tour the impressive gorges of the Todra River and admire its vertical walls on either side of the road. The oasis full of palm trees will accompany our tour.

Visiting a kasbah is learning a little more about life in southern Morocco.

Following the route of the thousand kasbahs, we will arrive at Dades whose road that zigzags in its gorges is the most spectacular in all of Morocco.

Day 7: Ouarzazate – Ait Ben Haddou – Marrakech
Stop At: Musee du Cinema, Av. Mohamed V, Ouarzazate 45000 Morocco
If desired, you can visit the Ouarzazate film studios, where scenes from the first Star Wars movie were filmed.

Stop At: Ait Ben Haddou, Ait Ben Haddou, Souss-Massa
Our stop is in the mythical fortified city, the Ksar of Ait Ben Haddou, declared by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site. Their adobe houses have been the scene of Game of Thrones or Gladiator.

Stop At: Marrakech, Marrakech, Marrakech-Safi
We will cross the High Atlas through the mountain pass of Tizi n’Tichka, enjoying wonderful mountain views dotted with small Berber villages. The road leads us to Marrakech our final destination today.

Day 8: Marrakech city tour
Stop At: Jemaa el-Fnaa, 38 Jemaa el-Fna, Rue El Ksour, Marrakech Morocco
We are going to pass through the Jemaa el-Fnaa square at some point. It was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO, and it is a magical place, which is worth returning to again and again. During the day full of orange juice stalls, jugglers and snake charmers. At sunset, the smoke from the restaurants of traditional Moroccan food and the music and crowds that gather in it. To walk or enjoy it while having tea or eating on one of its terraces.

On a visit to Marrakech, if there is time left, the Majorelle gardens of Yves Saint-Laurent are a haven of peace full of blue and the green of its cacti. You can also visit the Berber museum and the Yves Saint Laurent museum

Day 9: Marrakech – Casablanca – Rabat
Stop At: Hassan II Mosque, Blvd Sidi Mohammed Ben Abdallah, Casablanca 20450 Morocco
The 3-hour motorway ride to Casablanca takes us to the Hassan II Mosque. The interior visit will be according to hours stipulated by the temple. It is a unique opportunity to enter the only mosque in Morocco that can be visited, and admire its majesty next to the Atlantic Ocean.

From Casablanca, the economic capital, we will travel to Rabat, the administrative capital, to visit the tower that stands among the ruins of a mosque. You can also visit the Mohamed V mausoleum next door.

Then we will go to visit the Kasbah of Rabat located next to the Chellah, the necropolis that it protected.

Day 10: Rabat – Assilah – Tanger
Stop At: Puerto de Assilah, Asilah 90050 Morocco
We are heading north to Tangier, but before that we will make a stop in Assilah, a destination for sea air that you will surely love. They are about 3 hours away. It is a small fortified enclave amidst fine sandy beaches located about 50 km south of Tangier. A charming medina to spend a relaxing and beautiful day. You can take advantage to eat the day’s fish and do some shopping in your small medina.
