What to Expect When Visiting Tangier, Tanger-Tetouan-Al Hoceima, Morocco

Itinerary
Day 1: Tangier
Stop At: Hercules Cave, Cap Spartel, Tangier 90060 Morocco
We start the route in Tangier through a beautiful residential area and the royal palaces to the Perdicaris Park until we reach the Cap Spartel lighthouse. At this point the Mediterranean and the Atlantic meet.
The Grottoes of Hercules are visited, whose silhouette to the sea is the most representative image of Tangier. Its shape signaled the arrival of the African continent for centuries. You will be amazed by the views of the cliffs and surrounding beaches and if you wish, you can take a walk or take some pictures with dromedaries.

Stop At: Tombeaux Phéniciens, Q5RH+8XH, Tangier, Morocco
The way back will be through the Marshan neighborhood, to the imposing royal palace square. Right there a set of Phoenician tombs carved into the rock is a special viewpoint to the Strait of Gibraltar. You can also walk to have tea on the famous terraces of the Hafa Cafe.

Stop At: Musee de la Kasbah, El Casbah Square, Tangier Morocco
From this point at the top of the old Tangier, you can enter a guided tour or only through the wall that surrounds the Kasbah. It is worth visiting the interesting and beautiful renovated museum in the former Sultan’s palace.

Stop At: Medina of Tangier, Tangier Morocco
Stroll through the medina following the marked itineraries or on a guided tour, enjoying the daily life and its shops. Have a coffee in the iconic Petit Zoco Square, visit the American Delegation, tour the Rue siaghine … Enter the market that is just outside the medina and stroll through the surrounding streets, to the old Great Souk now converted into Place 9 d’avril. We wait for you with the car.

Day 2: Tangier -Tetouan – Chaouen
Stop At: Tetouan, Tetouan, Tanger-Tetouan-Al Hoceima
The next day we start the excursion to Tetouan, which is the old capital of the Spanish protectorate. Known as “The White Dove”, the city covers the hillsides where it is settled with whitewashed houses. Tetouan has not yet been invaded by tourism and it is worth observing the daily life that is still preserved in its medina. The light of Tetouan as in Tangier is a bright one that you will not forget.

Stop At: Feddan Park Tetouan, Avenue Alger, Tetouan Morocco
It is very nice to start from the Feddan Park, where you can see the white medina and from there walk to the Moulay El Mehdi Square, where the bell of a Catholic church still tells time. Then, stroll through the flirtatious widening enjoying the well-preserved colonial facades to the royal palace. Everything in Tetouan is painted white and green. And it is also full of signs of its old Spanish character.

Stop At: Medina of Tetouan, Tetouan Morocco
The royal palace is located in the beautiful square of Hassan II, adorned with modernist columns of a disciple of Gaudí residing in Melilla. There is one of the entrance doors to the medina, declared a World Heritage Site. It is a real wonder and very little known. You will perceive that it remains still authentic and you can enjoy observing all kinds of artisans working in it. It is not easy to move around it alone, we recommend visiting it with a local guide to explore it completely without getting lost and see its main attractions.

Stop At: Tanneries of Tetouan, Rue Laayoun close to Bab Mkabar, Tetouan Morocco
Precisely one of the attractions of the medina is that it retains old leather tanneries around which some artisans almost symbolically maintain the craft of making articles of this material.

Stop At: Chefchaouen, Morocco
Then we continue the excursion from Tetouan to Chaouen where we will spend the night. We will travel inland to what they call the blue pearl of Morocco. Chefchaouen is in the Rif Mountains 65 km from the road, an hour and a half away. The private transport route will also show the rural northern Morocco that is becoming increasingly mountainous.
The magical blue town of Chaouen is a sacred town that only since 1920, with the arrival of the Spanish, began to allow foreigners to enter. And this is perceived from the first moment. It is an essential visit for the beauty of the place and its peculiarity. Even if you have seen a thousand photos, immersing yourself in your blue will delight you.

If you want to 20 minutes walk from the washrooms, on the outskirts of the town, you will find the Spanish mosque, from which you can have a very nice view of the town at sunset.

Day 3: Chaouen – Mzoura – Assilah
Stop At: Chefchaouen Medina, Chefchaouen, Morocco
In Chefchaouen you will enjoy the walk through its cozy streets painted indigo blue. For many they are ranked among the 10 most beautiful streets in the world. Instagramers: it will be your delight, every street, every door and every corner is a beautiful photograph.
The medina is full of craft shops, so you can also take advantage of shopping.

Stop At: Place Outa el Hammam & Kasbah, Avenue Hassan II, Chefchaouen 91000 Morocco
The Andalusian-style Uta Al-Hammam square with restaurants on the roof of its buildings is ideal for lunch or tea in a pleasant place and enjoy the breeze.
You can visit the Kasbah and climb its tower from where to observe the beautiful landscape of the village and the mountains of the Talassemtane National Park.

Stop At: Ras El Maa Waterfall, East outside of Chefchaouen medina, Chefchaouen Morocco
To the east of the town are the laundry rooms that collect water from the river and where women gather to wash clothes and run it in the sun following their customs.

Stop At: Asilah, Asilah, Tanger-Tetouan-Al Hoceima
After a morning walk through Chaouen, we head to Assilah, a safe sea air destination that you will love. They are about 3 hours away. It is a small fortified enclave amidst beaches of fine sand that is located about 50 km south of Tangier. A lovely medina to spend a relaxed and beautiful day.
We offer you the historical counterpoint to visit the nearby Cromlech de Mzora and the next day a stop if you wish to take a walk on the beach.

Stop At: Cromlech de Mzoura, Mzoura Morocco
Prehistoric jewel 15 km from Assilah is the unknown Cromlech of Mzora. It is a small set of monoliths in a circle, and is the only megalithic monument known to all of North Africa. It is a recommended option if you like history and magical sites.

Day 4: Assilah -Tanger
Stop At: Asilah Medina, Rue Attijara, Asilah Morocco
A unique Portuguese fortification protects the charming medina of Asilah. It is delicious to walk quietly in the silence of its narrow and whitewashed streets. Each corner and each door are a postcard. If it is accessible, it arrives at the viewpoint of the wall that goes into the sea, to relax the look on the profile of houses and rocks in which the waves break.
The facades of the houses of Assilah are the annual setting of an art festival, which paints them with murals of different styles. You will also discover that the medina is full of bohemian-style stores. You can stop to buy clothes, pottery, jewelry or some other Moroccan souvenir.

Stop At: Puerto de Assilah, Asilah 90050 Morocco
Strolling through the harbor full of blue fishing boats and observing the arrival of fishermen and the sale and distribution of the merchandise of the day is also a spectacle. In front of the port and at the entrance to the medina, the driver will indicate numerous restaurants to enjoy the fish of the day.

Stop At: Church of San Bartolome, FX89+J2H, Asilah, Morocco
Do not forget to visit very close to the medina, the beautiful Christian church of San Bartolomé, from 1927. Although it is usually closed, it is always a curious contrast amidst the Moroccan buildings that surround it.

Stop At: شاطئ تهدرت طنجة, H2H6+255, El Khaoucha, Morocco
Afterwards, the road trip from Assilah to Tangier will allow you to enjoy a beautiful landscape along the Atlantic coast of northern Morocco. If you wish, we can stop for a short walk along the seashore at the mouth of the Oued Mharhar River. If the tide is low and you feel like walking, you can approach the bottom dunes.
Depending on the time, it is worth eating at some fish restaurant of the day halfway, or already in Tangier where we will make the transfer to the airport / port / end point of our services.
