Itinerary
Day 1: Travel to Erg Chebbi from Todra Gorge
Stop At: Todgha Gorge, R 703 near the town of Tinerhir, Tinerhir 45520 Morocco
We’ll meet in the village of Tizgui at the entrance of Todra Gorge (if you choose the tour option including transportation).
Duration: 30 minutes
Stop At: Errachidia, Errachidia, Meknes-Tafilalet Region
We’ll stop for a break and to explore the souk in Errachidia – famous for its dates! You can pick up some fresh fruit for lunch.
Duration: 1 hour
Stop At: Erg Chebbi, Erg Chebbi, Meknes-Tafilalet Region
You’ll arrive at Erg Chebbi in the early afternoon and meet your guide and the dromedaries. Then you’ll start out across the dunes either on foot or riding the dromedary. The destination is a nomad camp on the far side of the dunes (about 3 hours) on the edge of the black desert. Here you’ll experience complete stillness, away from the crowded touristic side on the opposite side of the dunes. You’ll have the camp entirely to yourself with a guide to cook simple Berber food. Enjoy the impressive night sky in solitude.

Day 2: Desert Sunrise and return
Stop At: Erg Chebbi, Erg Chebbi, Meknes-Tafilalet Region
You’ll wake up early to catch the true sunrise — an amazing event you’ll likely never see again. Here, on the edge of the perfectly flat black desert, you’ll see the sun rise over the horizon into a night sky.
Then you’ll enjoy a simple breakfast prepared in camp before starting the 3-hour trek back across the dunes to the touristy side.

If you choose the transportation-inclusive option, you’ll be picked up on the edge of the dunes to start the 3-hour drive back to Todra Gorge. Accommodation in our guest house, A Secret Garden, in Todra Gorge is available for an additional fee. You’ll have earned the hot shower and comfortable bed!
