Our next stop is “Cenote Cocalitos”, home of stromatolites, that are known as living stones and are considered the oldest form of life in the planet. The third point to enjoy will be “Black Cenote” which is an open sky cenote and also the deepest point of the lagoon. The final spot to is the Pirate Channel, as you’ll be explained that day, pirates used to enter Bacalar by using this channel to steal local precious wood. The Mayan Ruins of Chacchoben are the most popular and visited attraction to spend a great day on the Costa Maya. It is approximately 55 minutes by car from the Port of Costa Maya. This site is located a few kilometers from the town of Chacchoben from which its name is derived. The translation of the Mayan word "Chacchoben" refers to "The Place of Red Corn." Then we will arrive at our private club with bunk beds, kayaks, wifi and access to the lagoon where we will also enjoy some rich Mexican tacos before or after boarding the boat that will lead us to discover three cenotes (Black, Emerald, Cocalitos) bird island, (home of migratory birds), the stromatolite reef, one of the most important in Latin America.
