It has been classified as a nature reserve since 1974 and is part of the Natura 2000 Network for being classified as a special conservation area. Lagoa das Sete Cidades is very likely the most iconic and recognized natural monument in the Azores. In a region with such a large number of striking landscapes, the image of Sete Cidades is chosen countless times to represent or promote the island of São Miguel and the archipelago. Named one of the Seven Wonders of Portugal and classified as a Protected Landscape by the Natura 2000 Network, the Sete Cidades are a unique place in the world, which any traveler passing through these islands must visit.

At 947m above the sea level rises Pico da Barrosa, where throughout the route we can observe the diversity of the local fauna and flora. An enormous crater hides the glamorous Lagoa do Fogo at the top of the Fogo (Fire) Volcano at 575m above sea level. The beauty of the scenery sharpens ours senses with the luxurious vegetation – some endemic – from a spectacular landscape that reveals the magnificence of what nature presents us, on a journey that will last in your memory.

Amazing hike in the central part of the island at the bottom of the volcano of Lagoa do Fogo, where you will hike among lush vegetation, water streams and a beautiful natural waterfall that you can even swim in. In the end of the hike, you will also have the opportunity to relax on the hotsprings that are naturally heated by Lagoa do Fogo volcano. Also included in this tour is one of the most important views of the Island – the viewpoint to the caldera of Lagoa do Fogo – one of the seven wonders of Portugal! This hike takes around 2 hours and 30 minutes to complete and it is 8.5 km (5.2miles) long with a medium difficulty level.

An interesting and beautiful hike in one of the sides of the mountain of Lagoa do Fogo. This is a hike filled with tunnels that go from pastured fields with cows to forests with valleys and lush vegetation! In the end of this hike, we will visit one of the main lagoons of the island – Lagoa do Fogo – which is one of the seven wonders of Portugal. This hike takes around 2 hours and 30 minutes to finish and it is around 7.6 km (4.7miles) long with an easy/medium difficulty level.

Visit the Lagoa do Fogo Caldeira. We take some secondary roads to get the best views that others miss out on. At the top of Pico da Barrosa the highest point is 947 meters. It is here that we find some of the most spectacular views of the island.

This tour offers you a bit of everything – the ocean, waterfalls, viewpoints, lagoons, local culture and even a liqueur tasting! You will get to see volcanic dark sand beaches on the south part of the island and then stop at one of the few traditional ceramics factory of the island. After that we will go up to one of the highest mountains – Pico da Barrosa – with a view to both coasts of the island and then you will see one of the ex-libris of the Azores – the Lagoa do Fogo. During this tour you will also have the opportunity to see a natural beautiful waterfall – Salto do Cabrito and then make way to "Caldeiras da Ribeira Grande", where you can see for yourself the presence of the volcanic activity on the area and, also, bathe in the hot springs that are directly heated by the Lagoa do Fogo volcano. At the end of the tour it's time to toast to this wonderful day with a locally produced liqueur!

Walking Tour Fogo Lake allows you to discover one of the best lakes in São Miguel Island. This tour starts at 9AM with pick up included at hotels in Ponta Delgada.
