The indigenous villages of Malaysia, Orang Asli Villages is often visited by tourists who hope to seek out the aboriginal people and understand their culture. Orang Asli can be found in many different parts of Malaysia, and their choice of lifestyle is dependent of where they dwell. The Orang Laut, Orang Seletar and Mah Meri live along the coast and are fishermen. The Temuan, Jakun and Semai have taken to agriculture, some even manage to own rubber, oil palm and cocoa plantations. Still about 40% of the Orang Asli population continue to be forest dwellers. They cultivate hill rice, and engage in hunting and gathering, and trade in forest produce such as petai, durian, rattan and resins. The forest dwellers include the Semai, Temiar, Che Wong, Jah Hut , Semelai and Semoq Beri. A small number continue a nomadic lifestyle deep in the rainforest. This includes Negrito groups such as the Jahai and Lanoh. During raining season , we will advice as the trail may be too muddy.

Half-way up our climb, we discover the “Mare aux Joncs Gorge” that we like to call the “Bats Valley” because of the thousands of Mauritan Fruit-Bats we can observe there. On top of our ascension, at 400m above sea level we get an amazing sight on the West-Coast, its lagoons and beautiful villages amountains. From there, we start our back back down to the river where we can stop to enjoy a nice swim before continuing to the parking lot of the park.

The Baduy are a traditional Sundanese ethnic group that live in the province of Banten, a few hours outside of Jakarta. The villages where they live are famous, because the Baduy do not use modern technology, though this is changing. The Baduy are split into two distinct groups. The first are the communities who reside in the area known as Baduy Luar. There are 22 villages that are considered a part of Baduy Luar. The communities that form Baduy Luar form a barrier to the outside world for the 40 families who live in the area known as Baduy Dalam. The journey will begin by looking at the houses of the Baduy tribe whose outer parts are still made of straw, if you are lucky you can document their joint activities (outer baduy), continue the journey again you will find a slightly rocky path and up and down. You will also pass through many small rivers and barns belonging to the Baduy. The houses in the Baduy village are still made of bamboo and palm fiber and all face the rising sun.
