A day trip to Tarangire National Park is definitely worth it if you do not have a lot of time to do a longer safari. It is a smaller park, and therefore you are able to see a lot of wildlife in a short period of time. You will also get to enjoy the beautiful nature and scenery.

This brief trip to Tarangire is the best option to experience an African safari experience in Tanzania. The park is home to one of the largest populations of elephants. You will also see a good number of eland, gazelle, impala, zebra and wildebeest. Over 550 bird species inhabit the swamps spread all over the park.

Tarangire National Park is popular for having the largest number of elephants per square foot as well as baobab trees. With its beautiful scenery  proximity this park is usually assigned with the northern circuit itinerary along with other national parks like Lake Manyara, Ngorongoro and Serengeti. The elephants fill this park like cattle while the lions roam the grassland plains looking for their prey. Due to water scarcity most animals in the summer would be found along the riverbed digging for water. It is close to Arusha town making ideal for a day visit.

We’ll depart from Moshi early in the morning and drives traight to the Tarangire National Park. The park’s landscape is awe-inspiring; dotted with colossal termite mounds (some now the homes of Mr and Mrs Mongoose and all the little mongoose) and ancient baobab trees, as well as golden savannah. The park has a year-round water supply and that’s why it’s so rich in wildlife. Bird lovers won’t be disappointed. The park hosts over 550 species of bird, including the world’s largest, the Maasai ostrich. (Yes, Tarangire is a small park but it attracts the biggest animals!). During the dry months the concentration of animals around the Tarangire river is almost as diverse and reliable as in the Ngorongoro Crater. However, the ecosystem here is balanced by a localised migration pattern that is followed by the majority of game that resides in and around the park.

The Tarangire River is the primary source of fresh water for wild animals in the Tarangire Ecosystem during the annual dry season. The Tarangire Ecosystem is defined by the long-distance migration of wildebeest and zebras. During the dry season thousands of animals concentrate in Tarangire National Park from the surrounding wet-season dispersal and calving areas. It covers an area of approximately 2,850 square kilometers (1,100 square miles.) The landscape is composed of granitic ridges, river valley, and swamps. Vegetation is a mix of Acacia woodland, Combretum woodland, seasonally flooded grassland, and baobab trees.

Itenerary: Day 1- Early in the morning after breack fast we pick up travellers from Furaha lodge which they stayed with picnic lunch box. We go direct to Tarangire National park.We will have day game drive till affternoon and we got a lunch in Tarangire view point, then after lunch we turn back to keep on with a game drive till evening then we start a journey to return back to Arusha town direct to the lodge.
