The reindeer and the Sami have been living and working on this land for centuries and they have only recently invited guests to be part of their daily life. You will visit their camp and have a chance to feed the herd of around 300 wild reindeer who will swarm all around and some will even eat from your hands. You will then be invited for hot drinks around the fire inside a warm candlelit gamme (Traditional Sami Hut) where lunch, bidos, cooked over the open fire will be served (a traditional Sami stew which is often served at Sami weddings and other special occasions). After lunch you will be invited into a lavvu (Sami tent) and gather around the fire to listen to stories about Sami culture and how it is to be a reindeer herder. The Sami guide will also perform a joik (traditional Sami song) for the guests.


Reindeer Sledding, Feeding And Sami Culture At Reindeer Farm


Join us for an exciting visit at an authentic reindeer farm. Get to do a short reindeer sledding tour, visit and feed a herd of several hundred reindeer. Gather around the bonfire inside the lavvu, and get to know the Sami history, while enjoying a traditional hot meal. Try your lasso throwing skills and invite your fellow travellers for a lasso throwing competition. Compared to similar activities in the area, our maximum amount of guests is smaller, which provides a more intimate experience where you really get to dive into the culture and the beautiful scenery surroundings.

Enjoy the Sami experience of reindeer sledding, where you'll enjoy a long sleigh ride (30 mins) pulled by a wild reindeer. A Sami guide will also perform a joik, traditional folk song, for you, before return transportation to Tromsø.

We offer guests a small group tour (16pers) around Kvaløya island with majestic mountains and arctic fjords. During the trip around the island, guests will join Sami reindeer herder and his reindeers which are living in wildness close to Sommarøy, guests will enjoy reindeer herder calls for his reindeers who are living in free natural habitat. When the herd is gathered, there will be an opportunity to feed the animals by hand. Guests will also be gathering in traditional Sami lavvo (Sami tent) around open bonfire to enjoy Joik (traditional Sami songs) and learn more about Sami traditions. During the roundtrip we will visit Sommarøy Arctic Hotel for lunch/meal made of local ingredients. Sommrøy is a fantastic place and a group of islands in the open sea 1,5 hours driving from Tromsø. Guests will have time to explore Sommrøy by walking around before we leave the fishing community.

You will then be invited for hot drinks around the fire inside a warm candle lit gamme (Traditional Sami Hut) where a relaxed three course meal will be served, including bidos cooked over the open fire (a traditional Sami stew). After dinner you will be invited into a lavvu (Sami tent) and gather round the fire to listen to stories about Sami culture and how it is to be a reindeer herder. The Sami guide will also perform a joik (traditional Sami song) for the guests. If you are lucky and the sky is clear you will have a chance to see the northern lights above the reindeer camp.


Tromsø: In the footsteps of Roald Amundsen


In the company of your own guide, you can explore the city by foot on this unique walking tour. The tour is organized with 3 hours duration. On this tour we take you on a walk around the small city centre of Tromsø that has been founded in 1795 on the island of Tromsøya and its surrounding. The city has, also called the Gateway to the Arctic, been throughout history the start for several Polar Expedition. Tromsø has long been an important base for many polar expeditions, and the Polar Museum exhibits and presents this polar seafaring tradition. After the visit at the Polar Museum, we will go to Full Steam where we will visit the exhibitions about the Maritime and Fisheries history as well as Sea Sami culture and history. The walk continues through the “Storgata” towards the Framsenter (the main building in Tromsø for research in the arctic). We will walk next to Ølhallen, Tromsøs oldest pub which used to be a popular place to stay for fishermen and explorers.

Passing through the Mount Aenos we will arrive in the area of Omala Valley and we will find the largest religious monument in Kefalonia having been established in 1560 by St. Gerasimos, the patron saint of the island. You cannot pass from Kefalonia without tasting a glass of the famous local wine or other traditional products at a Winery which operates as an exhibition of wines, alcoholic beverages & traditional products of Kefalonia and other Ionian Islands, located in this area. Continuing we will visit t the subterranean lake of Melissani, where small boats carrying visitors to admire the spectacular sight of the stalactites and the changing kaleidoscopic colors of the water and Drogarati Cave, discovered 300 years ago when an earthquake exposed the entrance. Leaving the caves we will meet another beautiful location surrounded by sea and fir tree cloaked mountains, Agia Efimia. On the way back snap some postcard-worthy photos from the top of the hill of Myrtos Bay.


Overnight Stay with Reindeer Sledding & Feeding


Meet our herd of 300 reindeer and join on a 30-minute sleigh ride while enjoying the beautiful nature a and the wonderful northern night sky! We cannot predict when lady aurora shows up, but we are lucky to have a location with very little light pollution and beautiful nature to experience this phenomenon in all its splendour! After a sleigh ride of about 30 minutes, you will head towards the fence and feed our lovely reindeers. Right after, you will head to our Gamme-hut where you will enjoy some hot drinks and you will get to taste our reindeer stew or our hearty vegan soup. When we are all comfortable, our Sami guide will tell you more about the Sami culture and history, they will show you some of our traditional crafts. At the end of the tour, when the rest of the group heads back to Tromsø, you will be accompanied to your tent where you will learn how to keep yourselves warm through the night, just like it has been done for centuries, in what we call “hot tent camping”.
