Truffle is an unusual subterranean fungus. There are two important varieties of truffles: white truffle (Tuber Magnatum) and black truffle (Tuber Melanosporum). Both of these can be found in the Motovun forest located in the valley of the Mirna River. Even though truffles can be found elsewhere, Motovun truffles are considered to be of the highest quality.Truffles live 10 – 30 centimetres underground, which makes it hard to find, and that’s why trained dogs are used in the truffle hunting activities. Enjoy an amazing truffle hunting with a professional "Trifolao" and his trained dog near Monforte d' Alba. Breathe pure air in a gorgeous wood and enjoy the intense truffle scent. Meet the hunter and his dogs, who are specially trained to sniff out truffles, you’ll have a good chance of tracking down the elusive fungi. Along the way, learn more about truffles and why they are so rare, and pick up expert tips on how to find them. During the Hunting you will take a brake for a cheese tasting with black truffle scratched on top, the experience ends with a wine tasting. The price for the truffle hunting experience does not include the tartufaiolo’s fee, which is 40€ for two people and 30€ for groups of 3 or more. The fee will be paid directly to the tartufaiolo in cash during the experience, based on the total number of participants in the group that day.

During the tour you will be helped by my friend Margherita. She's an official tourist guide with great passion for truffles and local culture, translating every part of the hunting.

In order not to be seen and to arrive before the others, truffle hunters often go at night to look for truffles, and it is no coincidence that in the Corazzano valleys one night in 1954, the largest truffle in the world was found weighing 2520 g. During the truffle hunting experience we will travel the paths where truffles naturally grow. Truffles are a seasonal delicacy but in this area we are very lucky, in spring we can find the Marzuolo or March truffle, in summer the Tartufo Nero Scorzone, a black Summer truffle, while in winter there are black winter truffles but also sometimes the famous " Bianco delle Crete Senesi", the highly prized white truffle. Outside our farm house we meet up with our expert truffle hunter and his wonderful dogs. To help you get the best of the companionship of the truffle hunter, a mine of information on truffles, the dogs, the woods and countryside and the local area in general you will be accompanied by an English speaking interpreter – generally an interpreter who also assists in the cooking classes and so able to give you tips on storing and using the truffles in the kitchen.

After a one-hour comfortable drive from Florence to the Chianti region, you will meet with our professional truffle hunter.
