If you are not quite ready to tackle the summit of Africa's largest mountain, then Kilisa Tours & Safaris can arrange for you to do the first day of the hike up Mt Kilimanjaro. you will hike for approximately 3-4 hours from the base of the mountain. You will hike until you reach the first hut where people overnight when climbing the mountain for 5-6 days along the Marangu Route. This is an amazing experience! Come climb with us!

On this trip, you will hike on the Marangu Route with one night at Mandara Hut and towards Horombo Hut before returning to Mandara for lunch and then hiking back. You will NOT reach the summit. All short treks are offered on a private basis, and you can start on any day of the year. The short treks are geared for people who like to hike but reaching the summit isn't a "must do", and allow one to experience the excitement of hiking on the highest peak on the African continent. All trekking inside of the Tanzania National Park require the services of a certified Kilimanjaro guide, and the Marangu route is the only route where short treks are allowed. This Kilimanjaro 8 Days Lemosho Route itinerary, is a very special itinerary designed for those wishing to make the ascent to the summit in the daylight hours as well as with sun rise. You will pass by Kibo crater rim, and trek to the top of the inner Reusch crater and cross the Shira Plateau. It takes us through magnificent scenery with views of the Great Rift Valley, Mt Meru and Longido. Some wildlife can be seen. The route is more scenic.

Climbing the 6 days Machame route can be done in a minimum of six days (five nights) on the mountain. With an approximation of 62 km/ 37 miles from gate to gate. It is designed for physically fit people with some hiking experience, but plenty of first time trekker use the route as well and do just fine.

The Shira Plateau area of Kilimanjaro offers a fantastic opportunity to get high on a big mountain and to hike around this impressive World Heritage Site as a day trip – it’s a fantastic area and there are some great day hikes – either a more strenuous day hiking up along the ancient rim of the plateau or something more relaxed sticking to the undulating floor – perhaps going as far as the photogenic ‘cone place’ or Shira Needles’ at the Southern end of the plateau. There is a fair amount of wildlife on the plateau however most of it is elusive and nocturnal but with care the events of the night can be reconstructed from the footprints around the watering points on the streams. There are herds of buffalo but also smaller gazelles and bushbuck, there is the carcase of eland and elephant higher on the mountain proving that these larger animals are occasional visitors.

For those who don't want to summit the Mighty Kilimanjaro, a day trip may offer you the perfect alternative, you can walk via the Marangu route up to Mandara Hut, which is 2,700 metres above sea level where there is a small crater. The trip will take around 7 Hrs. The price includes private transport from Lodge and back, Tanzania National Park fees. Rescue fee packed lunch, mineral water Porters and Guides.
