There are only a few places in the world where bioluminescence can be seen year round. And luckily for travelers to the Nicoya Peninsula there is one such place here. Bioluminescence is a light created by living organisms through a chemical reaction, biological light. In the gulf it is the algae that create this magical effect. Upon being disturbed, the algae give off a burst of light. Since there are millions of them it looks like sparkles in the water. The wavelengths are in the blue to green area and depending on the amount of algae it will appear as bluish or greenish sparkles. One of the best ways to see this phenomenon is to get a look from above, and kayaking is a great way to see it well. The algae will stick to your paddle, your hand or floating debris glowing for many seconds if you encounter a strong patch. When you kayak over shallow areas, fish will be scared up and it looks like fireworks under water as they take off, leaving a trail of “fairy dust” in their wake.

All geared up, the guides led you thru a forest path sharing local uses of the plants seen along the forest trail. at the caves entrance, the guide shares information as to the seven caves layout, kayaking equipment familiarization and kayak route. here you will notice awesome large cave entrances with a crystal clear river flowing thru it. as you paddle you will go thru a series of caves, see many formations. the guide will show you places to stop and rest and enjoy a refreshing swim. the paddling continues thru the caves systems until you arrive at the exit where the sunlight glitters on the water, and the birds can be heard singing on the river bank. here we store our gear, use the facilities and prepare for the return drive home.

Silver Springs kayaking is open all year long, and it’s a fantastic place for adventure whenever you’re ready to go! Manatee season is November through March but there are 7 manatees that call Silver Springs home year round! So we have the possibility to see the occasional manatees. Whenever you decide to take the tour, you can count on blue, crystal clear water and tons of fascinating history about this 200 year-old attraction. Besides the possibility of seeing manatees and monkeys, there are all kinds of wildlife to be seen year round, and I’ve memorized all their hot-spots. I can’t wait to show you! (there is a max weight limit of 250lbs for the single kayaks and 450lbs for the tandem)*Please note if you need a two person tandem. Location Matters: We are located just a 5 minute paddle from the Las Olas Paddle Canals. Flat Water / Very little boat traffic: Perfect for beginners or experienced kayakers.

Friendly for beginners, come as you are because equipment and gear will be provided. Hop on one of our tandem kayaks in a pair or with our Expedition Leader, and you are set for your adventure! The journey begins with a short length of open sea kayaking before entering the mangroves. You will immediately notice a sharp difference between the choppy open sea waves and tranquil calm waters among the mangroves. Do not be fooled by the peacefulness as inactivity because the mangroves are abuzz with wildlife! For bird-watching enthusiasts, you will be able to spot species such as the Kingfishers, Eagles, Hornbills, Herons and Egrets – and that is just to name a few.

Manatee Cove is a hidden treasure, Manatees migrate to this little cove in the summer. It is normal to see 10 to 15 manatees on your adventure. Dolphin sightings are always a joy and are seen on most rentals. It is always a treat to watch dolphins in the wild chase their food (fish). The thing I hear the most from folks after their return is, amazing, Beautiful and fun. You will be surprised at how much wildlife you encounter on your rental.

We are located in an area where you have several choices to explore. You can kayak the open, shallow waters of Rose Bay. Maybe you want to do a little more slow exploring and head south to the backwaters of Spruce Creek. Or you want a little more adventure and head east to the tidal creeks and channels that lead to the inlet. Whichever you choose is going to give you a taste of wild Florida.
